About Beacon
Beacon -- The Bay Area Patient Safety Collaborative -- is an effort by hospitals in the San Francisco Bay Area to become the highest quality, most reliable model for safe patient care in the world. The thirty-nine participating hospitals have committed themselves to improving the quality of acute healthcare and ending inadvertent harm to patients. By working collaboratively through a dedicated peer-to-peer learning community, these hospitals are accelerating the implementation of high impact, evidence-based clinical and operational practices that keep patients safe and save lives. Beacon is funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

Through the Beacon Institute, Webinars, convenings, brown bag lunches, workshops and other forums, Beacon hospitals share their most successful and innovative practices in a non-competitive environment as each one takes individual action to improve outcomes on several initiatives.

Since 2005, hospital executives, quality leaders, and staff have been collaborating to share innovations and replicate models of success that lead to sustained improvement. Each hospital is now participating on some or all of the 12 clinical interventions and is committed to improving outcomes on at least two sponsored by Beacon.
