Attendees at BEACON's October 2009 meeting were asked to turn to the people sitting next to them and offer congratulations for saving 499 lives from reductions in VAP and CLBSI infections as of July 2009. Participants and their colleagues back in the hospitals, were recognized by Dr. Bruce Spurlock, BEACON Collaborative's Executive Director Clinical Acceleration for their tremendous efforts. In addition to the continued efforts in VAP and CLBSI reduction, an estimated 465 lives were saved through a reduction in sepsis mortality rates and 395 fewer patients experienced painful pressure ulcers. Dr. Spurlock called this "tremendous progress" and stated, "The Bay Area is becoming the best place for patient safety and healthcare." Keep up the good work!
