Hop On The Bus, Webinar Recordings Available, Video Coming Soon

Many exciting opportunities and features will be available as Beacon ventures into new programs, expanded features for Beacon Institute and recordings of Webinars for download in Beacon's website resources.

Due to the enthusiastic positive responses the Beacon team has received at our meetings and Beacon Institute classes, we are developing plans to offer new programs and features to meet the needs of the collaborative and expand to broaden the knowledge exchange to hospitals in Northern and Central California. Our ultimate goal is to sustain and grow Beacon as a collaborative and to become a national model for improving patient safety.

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation has generously provided the funding to begin this journey. Now it is time to provide the means to sustain and continue the momentum. We will be inviting participants outside of Beacon hospitals to attend our events. Our members will be asked to cover the cost for events at a fraction of the cost of similar meetings and learning opportunities. Mike Purvis, Beacon's Director of Operations explains, "This is part of our grant deliverables with the Moore Foundation, to begin developing revenue to sustain Beacon Collaborative well into the future and to build on the success we have experienced over the past four years."

Hop On The Bus, Gus: Myths and Mysteries of Engagement
Based on the enthusiastic response received at Beacon's Annual Patient Safety Conference, the collaborative is offering a new, one-day program "Hop On The Bus, Gus: Myths and Mysteries of Engagement", September 1, at Washington Hospital in Fremont. If you are ready to conquer the engagement challenge, are seeking insight into the myths and mysteries of engagement and in need of practical suggestions for getting the right people on board at the right time, you won't want to miss this opportunity. You will find solutions to attract the attention of those we need to get on board, ignite a fire under those you need to engage and understand why we often fail to engage the key people we so desperately need to "get on the bus".

Bruce Spurlock, MD, Executive Director, Clinical Acceleration for Beacon describes the challenges, "People often find barriers to improvement not because the projects they launch aren't worthy, or because they don't understand how to implement change, but because physicians, staff, even the leadership are overwhelmed with keeping too many balls in the air. The usual tricks don't work and folks need a more effective way of engaging people at all levels in the organization. Apathetic, burned out colleagues are the hardest to engage - this workshop is designed to move from apathy to excitement to engagement using four basic approaches."

This program is created for clinical and administrative leaders (managers, directors and medical staff), frontline staff and supervisors involved in change implementation. You will gain an understanding of practical ways to apply the ‘rules of engagement' for various stakeholders in your organization. Learn methods designed to breakdown resistance to change using customized techniques for a variety of audiences and how the tipping point on Roger's diffusion curve relates to engaging your colleagues.
